At a media roundtable held today, Pearce Clune, marketing director, emerging markets EMEA, retail and distribution, Dell shared with the audience top tips for selecting the right laptop for families, graduates and multimedia fans.
“At a time where the holiday season and graduation season converge, many an individual in the Middle East looks to purchasing the latest in technology gadgets for friends and family. With so many choices available to them, each with a daunting set of specifications, making the right decision can often be quite tricky,” Clune said.
He added that the first step to deciding on the right laptop or notebook is understanding the need for the device. “Ask yourself what you need this device for. Do you need it to consumer contact or actually create multimedia content? Once you have answered this question, you have already narrowed down the options based on your usage specifications. For instance, if you are purchasing a device for your school going kid who needs to carry it around for the greater part of the day and use it mostly for coursework you ought to be looking for a laptop that is thin and light, with all day battery life and robust connectivity. On the other hand if you are looking for a stay at home device that doesn’t occupy too much space that you will then use for storing pictures, listening to music or watching movie you should be looking for a device that offers you good processing power, ample storage, high definition video and great audio capabilities,” he explained.
The key elements to consider are connectivity, design, storage, battery life and multimedia capabilities, he said.
He further added, “In the Middle East, various shopping festivals as well as the Ramadan period can mean that retailers create special offers on technology products, so families can shop around for the laptop that best fits their needs. So keep a keen eye out for those bargains. Understand exactly what you need the laptop for to ensure you don’t pay for what you don’t want or need. Always match price to usage specifications to ensure you capitalise on the best experience possible.”
